FAQ

  • The simple answer is no however, we wish we could as we believe we could help many more people. Insurance has yet to recognize medical weight loss as a viable solution to health outcomes. They may pay for limited gym memberships however the payment structure is still quite variable. As a healthcare provider, to be “credentialed” by an insurance company, we essentially work for that insurance. By doing so, we are told what medications, what labs, what treatments we can provide. The insurance company dictates your treatment course, not your healthcare team. With obesity and poor health at an all time high, we must change the way we are operating and many members of that team are doing so. By operating a cash business, we are able to bypass many of the ridiculous financial contracts insurance companies have in place. For example, our initial lab panel drawn at a standard lab under insurance contracts is $700. We have contracted labs to provide the same service on a cash basis for $100. Semaglutide (Ozempic) picked up from a standard pharmacy utilizing an insurance payor source is $1200 - we have contracted with compounding pharmacies on a cash basis for $120. As a business, we strive to keep our overhead low. For example, a typical “new patient” visit under insurance contracts is $275 - by utilizing cash based payment, we can provide that same service for $150.

While we don’t accept insurance, our services do qualify for payment under HSA guidelines. We can provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance for repayment. Our goal is to help clients achieve a higher level of health. If you truly want to change however are concerned you don’t have the means to pay, please reach out. We still need to keep the lights on and the bills paid however will do all we can to work with you as we want YOU to succeed.

  • A compounding pharmacy is essentially a standard pharmacy that undergoes special certification to be able to combine various medications in “non-standard” formulas. By doing so, they are able to bypass “branding” labels with the associated costs. For example, Semaglutide is the active ingredient of Ozempic. Ozempic is branded and comes at a cost of about $1200. Compounding pharmacies buy Semaglutide from the same manufactures, combine it with low dose vitamin B-12 (by which may actually decrease GI side effects) and sell it at a cost of $120. Obviously as a business practice, manufacturers of Ozempic (Novo Nordisk) recognize this practice as significantly cutting into their revenue thus have used power and money to petition the FDA to mandate compounding pharmacies stop. They have posted much regarding compounding pharmacies as “not safe” and are marketing fear to the public for the purpose of building profit. A new “branded” drug has sole rights to that drug for 20 years at which time the company can charge inflated prices for which Insurances pay. Once that 20 year mark is up, other pharmaceutical companies can then produce a “generic” version of that same drug by buying the active ingredient and manufacturing themselves. By utilizing the regulatory work-arounds through compounding pharmacies, they are able to bypass those branding laws and provide affordable treatment to patients of all walks of life.

Compounding pharmacies are closely regulated by both federal and state agencies. They must ensure clean practices and safe products. To claim that they are producing illegitimate products that are harming patients is just derogatory. The responsibility for the safe use of these products is in the hands of those prescribing these medications - ensuring the correct dosages are being given to the correct patients while monitoring for adverse side effects

  • Our primary purpose at Comprehensive Medical Fitness is to break out of the mold of big box gyms. Big box gyms are created around building a large client base by selling cheap memberships to a large volume of clients. The easiest way to do that is to create an environment where anybody with no resistance training experience can walk in, see the picture of what muscle they want to target and perform that movement. The problem however lies in the fact that the human movement system is far more complex than that. Take for example the simple fact of reaching over to pick up a glass of water off the counter. That movement requires twisting, reaching and lifting. We call this type of movement “multi-planer” meaning that we must move our body across three planes of motion. 90% of exercise machines are only able to move across one plane of motion thus fail to provide “full functional training”.

The next problem lies in the fact that for every movement, we have muscles that must contract, relax, stabilize and assist all at the same time. This coordinated performance must happen simultaneously without us even thinking about it. If for example, we spend all of our time on the chest press machine, we may cause our chest and arm muscles to contract; however we are failing to work out back and shoulder muscles that must simultaneously assist and support. Over time, we will develop enlarged chest muscles out of proportion to back muscles. This will lead to movement distortions and make you at risk for poor posture and future injury.

By focusing our training on “multi-planar” movements utilizing free weights, we are much better at creating a strong, proportionally balanced and resistant to injury body. If you feel intimidated walking into a gym with only free weights, you are not alone. We are all here to learn, grow and improve. Reach out to us - our primary goal is to help YOU become better.
